How to say “retain” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وعن أسامة بن زيد قال روحوا القلوب تعي الذكر
Usama ibn Zaid said, 'Refresh the hearts so they may retain remembrance.'
تَعِي — they retain. A present-tense verb 'so they may retain'. Its plain shape here carries a purpose sense after the command, 'refresh them so that they keep'; the non-human plural 'hearts' makes the verb take the feminine-singular form.
