Usama ibn Zaid said, 'Refresh the hearts so they may retain remembrance.'
زَيْدٍ — Zaid. The owned father's name in the lineage, in the genitive; adjacency builds 'son of Zaid' with no word for 'of'.

And indeed Shu'ba used to narrate, and whenever al-Mazid the grammarian saw him, he would say: Indeed he is Abu Zayd al-Basit:
زَيْدٍ — Zayd. A personal name closing the 'father of...' pairing as its owner, so it takes the genitive 'of' ending that locks the two words into the single name. The case is set by the noun's slot in the kunya chain, not by the wider sentence.
