Arabic vocabulary
How to say “row/oar stroke” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
يُغْتَفَرُ أَمْلَاحُ سَفِينَتِها إِلَى جَذْفٍ وَاصْطِبَارٍ،
The sailor of its ship will be forgiven for his rowing and his steadfast endurance.
جذفٍ — rowing. An action-noun naming the act of rowing, treated as one of the things forgiven. It is indefinite and sits in the genitive as the object of the preposition before it. Arabic uses such action-nouns to name a deed as a single thing, much like English '-ing' nouns.
