Arabic vocabulary
How to say “shakes it off” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ فَرَأْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَضْرِبُ إِحْدَى يَدَيْهِ عَلَى الأُخْرَى يَنْفِضُ،
He said: I saw al-Bara' strike one of his hands against the other and shake it off.
يَنْفِضُ — shakes it off. A present-tense verb with its 'he' subject built in, painting a further ongoing action of al-Bara', 'shaking it off'. Like the earlier present it describes activity in progress at the time of watching. The object 'it' is understood from context rather than written out.
