Arabic vocabulary
How to say “small” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَتَجِدُ أَحَدُهُمْ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ الْأَمْرِ الصَّغِيرِ وَالْكَبِيرِ،
So you find one of them asking about small and large matters.
الصَّغِيرِ — the small. Carries al- ('the') and is a describing word for 'the matter' — 'the small'. As an adjective it follows its noun and copies its definiteness and genitive case, which is why it too is definite and genitive. It begins the pair 'small and large' that stresses the Companions asked about everything.
