Arabic vocabulary
How to say “smiled” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ثُمَّ مَرَّ بِي أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَبَسَّمَ
Then Abu al-Qasim, may God bless him and grant him peace, passed by me and smiled.
فَتَبَسَّمَ — so he smiled. The 'fa-' connector advances the narrative to its next beat, 'so he smiled', tying the smile to the passing; the body is the past verb 'smiled' with 'he' inside. The connector marks immediate succession. The verb's pattern, with its doubled and reflexive shape, is the standard verb for smiling.
