Arabic vocabulary
How to say “smiled” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَأَخَذَ الْقَدَحَ فَوَضَعَهُ عَلَى يَدِهِ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ فَتَبَسَّمَ
Then he took the cup, placed it on his hand, looked at me, and smiled.
فَتَبَسَّمَ — then smiled. The 'fa-' connector advances to the final beat, 'then he smiled'; the body is the past 'smiled' with 'he' inside, in its doubled, reflexive smiling pattern. The connector marks the smile as the closing action. The subject is inside the verb.
