Arabic vocabulary
How to say “submit” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَوْ أَحَبَّيْ شَيْئًا وَلَمْ يَخْضَعْ لَهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَابِدًا لَهُ
Even if someone loved something and did not submit to it, he would not be its worshiper.
يَخْضَعْ — he submits. Because the negator before it demands the jussive, this verb drops its full ending, the trimmed shape that signals 'did not happen'. Though present in form, paired with that negator it reports a past failure to submit. The clipped ending is the grammatical fingerprint of lam.
