How to say “worshipper” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
لَيْسَ للعابد مستراح إِلَّا تَحت شَجَرَة طُوبَى
For the worshipper, there is no resting place except under the Tree of Tuba.
لِلْعَابِدِ — for worshipper. 'Li-' (for / to) fused with an active participle 'the worshipper', genitive — 'for the worshipper [there is not]…'. The 'li-' marks the possessor in the existence-denial.
From: Love and Devotion to God →وَلَوْ أَحَبَّيْ شَيْئًا وَلَمْ يَخْضَعْ لَهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَابِدًا لَهُ
Even if someone loved something and did not submit to it, he would not be its worshiper.
عَابِدًا — worshiper. An active describing word naming one who worships, here the complement of the 'to be' verb and so in the accusative. It names the status being denied in the result clause; its ending shows it leans on that verb rather than standing as an independent subject.
