Arabic vocabulary
How to say “teach” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
هكذا يتحوّل الذِّكرُ إلى مدرسةٍ يومية يعلّمك النظرَ الصحيح، يطهّر لسانك من اللغو، ويَشدُّ قلبَك إلى ربّه،
This is how remembrance becomes a daily school: it teaches you correct perception, purifies your tongue from idle talk, and binds your heart to its Lord,
يُعَلِّمُكَ — it teaches you. Present 'teaches', with 'you' attached as object — 'teaches you'. The doubled middle is the 'instruct, drill' pattern; subject 'it' (the school) inside, object 'you' on the end.
From: Turning Daily Words into Worship →فَأَحْمَدُ رَبَّيَّ بِمَحَامِدٍ عَلَّمَنِيهَا،
So I praise my Lord with praises He taught me.
عَلَّمَنِيهَا — He taught them to me. A dense single word: a finished-action verb on a doubled-consonant 'teaching' pattern, with -ni ('me') fused on as the one taught and -ha ('them') fused on as what was taught, so it carries doer, deed, and both objects together. The 'He' subject is built in, and the -ha reaches back to the praises just mentioned.
From: Intercession on Judgment Day →فَأَحْمَدُ رَبِّي بِمَحَامِدَ عَلَّمَنِيهَا رَبِّي
So I praise my Lord with the praises my Lord taught me.
عَلَّمَنِيهَا — taught them to me. A remarkably dense verb: a finished-action body meaning the teaching, plus two stacked object pronouns, -ni for 'me' (the one taught) and -ha for 'them' (the things taught). Arabic lets a verb carry both its indirect and direct objects glued on in order, so a single word names the act and both who and what.
From: Intercession on Judgment Day →فَأَحْمَدُ رَبِّي بِمَحَامِدِ عَلَّمَنِيهَا،
So I praise my Lord with the praises He taught me.
عَلَّمَنِيهَا — He taught them to me. A dense finished-action verb with two object pronouns stacked on: -ni for 'me' (the one taught) and -ha for 'them' (the praises taught). Arabic lets a verb carry both objects glued on in order, so one word names the teaching and both its recipients and content.
