Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the guest” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ نُزُولَ الضَّيْفِ عَلَى أَقْوَامٍ لِئَامٍ،
A visitation came upon them, the arrival of the guest among mean-spirited people.
الضَّيْفِ — the guest. This definite noun completes the 'of' pairing, 'the arrival of the guest', standing in the genitive as the owner. The two nouns placed side by side give the possession with no separate 'of'; the case ending marks 'guest' as the one whose arrival it is.
