Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the night” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَكَرِهَ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ عَنْهُ حَتَّى أَدْرَكَهُ بَعْضُ اللَّيْلِ،
He was reluctant to ask about him until part of the night had passed.
اللَّيْلِ — the night. Carries the attached 'the' and closes 'part of the night' as the owner-half of that pairing, so its ending takes the possessor case. Set directly after with no word for 'of', it tells you what a portion is taken from.
