Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the oven” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَغَضِبْتُ لِقَوْلِهَا وَحَمَلْتُهَا بِسُكْرَى وَرَمَيْتُ بِهَا فِي التَّنُّورِ
I became angry at what she said, I carried her while she was intoxicated, and I threw her into the oven.
التَّنُّورِ — the oven. A definite noun, marked by al-, standing after the 'into' preposition and so taking the genitive ending. The al- makes it the specific oven already in the scene, the one the mother had lit, which is why it is 'the oven' and not just 'an oven'.
