Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the pasture” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَالَ لَقَدْ أَضَاقَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ الْمَرْعَى،
He said, "Indeed, the pasture has become too narrow for him."
الْمَرْعَى — the pasture. The al- makes this definite, 'the' pasture, the specific known thing. Despite coming last, it is the doer of the 'grew narrow' verb earlier, so it serves as the delayed subject, the thing that narrowed.
