How to say “the sheikh” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَمَّا لَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ قَامَ الشَّيْخُ
When none of them changed, the sheikh stood up.
الشَّيْخ — the sheikh. A definite noun, the title 'the elder', and the doer of the rising, so it takes the plain naming ending. Sitting after its verb, it is the subject the verb-first order delays.
