Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the verse” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ حَتَّى تَخْتِمَ الْآيَةَ،
Allah—there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer—until you finish the verse,
الْآيَةَ — the verse. A definite noun with 'the', its ending marking it as the direct object of 'finish'. Arabic shows that object role with a final vowel rather than by position, so the case ending carries the work English does with word order.
