How to say “the wise men” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
سُئِلَ بَعْضُ الْحُكَمَاءِ مَا الْحِكْمَةُ
Some of the wise were asked, 'What is wisdom?'
الْحُكَمَاءِ — the wise men. A broken plural, where the plural is made by reshaping the singular's interior rather than adding an ending, here made definite by al- ('the'). As the owned half of the pairing 'some of the wise', it takes the 'of' (genitive) ending.
