فَعَجِبُوا مِنْ جُرْأَةِ إِبْنِهِ فَنَكَسُوا رُؤُوسَهُمْ
They were astonished at his son's audacity, so they bowed their heads.
فَعَجِبُوا — so they were astonished. Consecutive fa- ('and so') on a past-tense verb with the plural 'they' in its ending. The fa- ties the astonishment to the blow just struck.
