How to say “thousand” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَإِذَا بِهِ يَحْتَوِي عَلَى سِتَّةِ آلاَفٍ مُجَلَّدٍ،
Then it contained six thousand volumes.
آلاَفٍ — thousand. The plural 'thousands' owned by the number in front of it, sitting in the genitive as the second member of that 'of' pairing. Arabic builds large counts by stacking number words this way. It carries the scale of the count up to the volumes named next.
