How to say “to al‑Zubayr” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْعَبَّاسَ يَقُولُ لِلزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،
He said, "I heard al‑Abbas say to al‑Zubayr ibn al‑Awwam, O Abu Abd Allah,"
لِلزُّبَيْرِ — to al‑Zubayr. Three pieces: the preposition li- ('to'), the article al- ('the'), and the name al-Zubayr, so one word means 'to al-Zubayr'. The li- marks the person spoken to and holds the name in the genitive; here it names the addressee of al-Abbas's speech.
