Arabic vocabulary
How to say “was exalted” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمَا عُظِّمَ بِغَيْرِ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ فَتَعْظِيمُهُ بَاطِلٌ
And whatever was exalted without the command of Allah, then its exaltation is void.
عُظِّمَ — was exalted. This verb is in its passive shape: the vowels inside are reshaped so the thing is exalted by someone unnamed, rather than doing the exalting. Arabic marks this voice internally, no helper word like 'was', so the form looks close to its active twin but assigns the opposite role.
