How to say “was given” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أُعْطِيَ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ
He was given from between his two hands and from behind him.
أُعْطِيَ — was given. A passive verb, 'was given': the unnamed human is the receiver while the giver is left out. Arabic signals the passive by changing the verb's inner vowels rather than adding a helper like 'was', so the form mirrors its active twin but reverses who acts.
