Arabic vocabulary
How to say “wise” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَيَسْمَعُ مِنْهُ الْكَلِمَةَ الْحَكِيمَةَ فَيَعْجَبُ مِنْهُ
He hears the wise word from him and is amazed by him.
الْحَكِيمَةَ — the wise. An adjective, 'wise', matching the noun before it in being definite (it too carries 'al-') and in the object case. Arabic makes describing words echo their noun in definiteness and case, so the agreement is what ties 'wise' to 'the word' rather than to anything else.
