Arabic vocabulary
How to say “wretched” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
اِتَّقِ اللَّهَ فِي نَفْسِكَ الْمِسْكِينَةِ،
Fear Allah for your wretched self.
الْمِسْكِينَةِ — wretched. This is a describing word attached to 'your self', and it agrees with that noun in being definite, feminine, and in the 'of...' (genitive) shape. Arabic adjectives copy these features from their noun, so its feminine genitive form is what locks it onto 'self' as its descriptor.
