Arabic vocabulary
How to say “writing” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَتَرَكَ البَعْضُ الآخَرُ الْكِتَابَةَ لِدِقَّةِ تَثَبُّتِهِ وَقُوَّةِ حِفْظِهِ
Others abandoned writing because what they retained was precise and their memory was strong.
الْكِتَابَةَ — the writing. The definite direct object of 'abandoned', hence accusative (the audible -a ending). With 'al-' it is the specific activity given up, writing, receiving the verb's action directly without a relator.
