Arabic vocabulary
How to say “a layer” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ـ أُرِيَ فِي جِلْدٍ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، شَكَّ زُهَيْرُ ـ
He was seen in a layer of earth, and Zuhayr doubted.
جَلَدٍ — a layer. An indefinite noun (no 'the'), so it names 'a layer' in general rather than a known one; its ending shows it is governed by the preposition before it. The lack of al- is what tells the reader it is unspecified.
