Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the earth” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ـ أُرِيَ فِي جِلْدٍ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، شَكَّ زُهَيْرُ ـ
He was seen in a layer of earth, and Zuhayr doubted.
الأَرْضِ — the earth. The al- makes this definite, 'the earth', and the preposition before it forces the oblique ending you see. Definiteness here treats the earth as a single known thing, not 'some earth'.
