Arabic vocabulary
How to say “was seen” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ـ أُرِيَ فِي جِلْدٍ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، شَكَّ زُهَيْرُ ـ
He was seen in a layer of earth, and Zuhayr doubted.
أُرَى — was seen. This verb is passive: the subject undergoes the seeing rather than doing it, and no see-er is named. Arabic builds the passive not with a helper word like English 'was' but by reshaping the inner vowels of the verb itself.
