How to say “Affan” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقُلْتُ مَنْ هَذَا فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانِ
So I asked, 'Who is this?' He replied, 'Uthman ibn Affan.'
عَفَّانِ — Affan. The father's name closing the chain, and because it is the second half of a 'son of' pairing its ending takes the possessor's case. Sitting straight after 'son of' with nothing between them is how Arabic says 'son of Affan' without any word for 'of'.
