فَلَمْ يُفَاجِئْ الْقَوْمَ لَيْلَةً بَعْدَمَا هَدَأَتْ الْعُيُونُ
So the people were not surprised that night, after the springs had settled.
بَعْدَمَا — after. A compound conjunction, 'after', opening a small time-clause about something that had already happened. It subordinates the settling of the springs as the prior backdrop to the main event.
