How to say “the people” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَمْ يُفَاجِئْ الْقَوْمَ لَيْلَةً بَعْدَمَا هَدَأَتْ الْعُيُونُ
So the people were not surprised that night, after the springs had settled.
الْقَوْم — the people. A definite noun standing as the object of the surprising and so in the object-style ending. It is the party that, the sentence says, was not taken unawares.
