How to say “Al-Fudayl” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَكَانَ الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ يَقُولُ إِنِّي لَأَعْصِيَ اللَّهَ، فَأَعْرِفُ ذَلِكَ فِي خَلْقِ دَابَّتِي وَجَارِيَتِي
Al-Fudayl ibn Iyad used to say: I do disobey God, and I perceive that in the nature of my mount and my female servant.
الْفُضَيْلُ — Al-Fudayl. A personal name carrying the definite article as part of its fixed form, acting as the subject of the past 'to be' verb, so it takes the plain subject ending. It names the figure the anecdote is about, with his habitual saying introduced in the verbs that follow.
