Arabic vocabulary
How to say “and it took place” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لِأَنَّهُمْ عَايَشُوا الْوَحْيَ وَعَاصَرُوا التَّنْزِيلَ وَوَقَعَتِ الْحَوَادِثُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ،
Because they lived through the revelation, witnessed its descent, and the events took place before them,
وَوَقَعَتِ — and it took place. 'Wa-' adds a third clause. Notice the agreement trick: the verb is past in a feminine-singular shape even though its subject 'the events' is plural. Arabic regularly uses a singular verb when it comes before its subject, so the plural agreement is not shown on the verb here.
