Arabic vocabulary
How to say “at night” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَأَنَا مُذّ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةٍ أَصُومُ النَّهَارَ وَأَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ،
And for forty years I have fasted during the day and stood in prayer at night,
اللَّيْلَ — at night,. A definite noun, marked by al-, in the adverb-of-time slot meaning 'through the night'. Like its daytime twin it takes the accusative for a span of time, so no preposition is needed; the ending alone marks it as the stretch across which the night-prayer is kept.
