Arabic vocabulary
How to say “during the day” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَأَنَا مُذّ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةٍ أَصُومُ النَّهَارَ وَأَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ،
And for forty years I have fasted during the day and stood in prayer at night,
النَّهَارَ — during the day. A definite noun, marked by al-, dropped into the adverb slot to mean 'through the daytime'. It takes the accusative ending Arabic uses for a span of time during which something happens, so no preposition is needed; the case alone says 'all day long' as the stretch over which the fasting runs.
