How to say “since” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَأَنَا مُذّ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةٍ أَصُومُ النَّهَارَ وَأَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ،
And for forty years I have fasted during the day and stood in prayer at night,
مُذّ — since. This is a time-particle meaning 'since, for (a span)', marking the starting point or duration of a long-running state. It sets up the forty-years stretch that follows and tells you the verbs ahead describe a habit kept up across that whole period, not a single event. It governs the time-expression after it.
