Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be taken captive” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَكِنَّنِي أَخْشَى أَنْ أُؤْسَرَ فَقَالَ أَنَّكَ لَنْ تُؤْسَرَ
But I fear that I will be taken captive. He said, "You will not be taken captive."
تُؤْسَرَ — you be taken captive. This verb is passive: 'you' would be the one captured, the action falling on you, which Arabic signals by the inner vowel pattern rather than a helper word. Its 'you' subject is carried by the prefix. It also wears the 'aim' ending forced by the 'never' particle before it.
