Then, some students of knowledge from the sons of Persia and Rome became obsessed with a type of deceptive argumentation.
صَارُوا — they became. Past 'they became', the -u marking 'they'; a 'turn into' verb taking an accusative predicate — and the main verb of the 'inna' sentence.
