Arabic vocabulary
How to say “claws” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
جُرْذًا لَهُ مَخَالِبٌ وَأَنْيَابٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ
A mouse that had claws and fangs of iron.
مَخَالِبٌ — claws. An indefinite plural noun, 'claws', standing as the thing the rat possesses; in the 'for-it-are-claws' frame it takes the plain subject ending as what exists for the rat. So it is grammatically the subject of the have-statement, not an object, even though English makes it the object of 'had'.
