How to say “companionship” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
قال أبقراط استدامة الصحبة بعب الماء، ويترك الامتلاء من الطعام والشراب
Hippocrates said that maintaining health involves drinking water and avoiding fullness from food and drink.
الصُّحْبَةِ — the companionship. This is the owner in 'maintaining of health', in the genitive to mark possession, with 'al-' making it definite. The two nouns stand directly together as a single phrase.
From: Moderation in Medicine →قَالَ فَالْصُّحْبَةُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
He said, "Then the companionship is yours, by my father, O Messenger of Allah."
فَالصُّحْبَةُ — then the companionship. Two pieces in one word: fa- drawing the conclusion 'then / so', plus a noun made specific by al-, 'the companionship'. The fa- ties this to the granted permission, so 'then THE companionship (is mine)', the definiteness marking the longed-for travel together.
