Arabic vocabulary
How to say “contempt” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فقد قرأ مقت الشعراء في سورة الشعراء
He has indeed read the contempt for poets in Surat Ash-Shu'ara.
مَقْتَ — the contempt. This is the object of 'read', in the accusative — a verbal noun meaning 'loathing / contempt' — and it heads a possessive: 'the contempt OF the poets'. So it is both what was read and the owner of the noun to come.
