Arabic vocabulary
How to say “curse” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَالَ النَّبِي لَا تلعنه فَإِنَّهُ يحب الله وَرَسُوله
The Prophet said, 'Do not curse him, for he loves Allah and His Messenger.'
تَلْعَنْهُ — curse him. This is a present-tense verb with 'you' built in and an attached 'him' as object, and its clipped ending shows the jussive shape that this negation triggers for a command. The jussive is how Arabic turns the verb into a prohibition, 'do not curse him'.
