Arabic vocabulary
How to say “cut” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فإذا أراد العبد أن يصلح قلبه، فليقطع هذه القواطع،
If the servant wants to repair his heart, let him cut these obstacles,
فَلْيَقْطَعْ — let him cut. This is a command aimed at a third person, 'let him cut', built by prefixing a command-marker to the present verb so its ending clips short. Arabic has no separate word like English 'let'; it folds the order into the verb's own shape, and the prefixed connector ties it back as the result of the 'if'.
