How to say “disobey” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
والبنين وكم صغر قاسى الأب لأجل الصغار، فلما ترقوا فعقوا والعقوق من الذنوب الكبار،
And the children, how much hardship the father endures for the sake of the young; but when they grow up, they disobey, and disobedience is among the grave sins,
فَعَقُّوا — so they disobey. The 'so/then' prefix presents this as the immediate, almost jarring result of the previous clause, and the past-tense verb carries its plural 'they' subject in the doubled-letter ending. The connector ties cause to effect tightly: they grew, and at once they rebelled.
