Arabic vocabulary
How to say “divided” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَتَضَيَّقَ سَبِيلًا مَا زَالَ مُتَّسِعًا فَفَرَّقَ الأَكْثَرُونَ دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا شِيعًا
And a path that had remained wide became narrow, so the majority divided their religion and became sects.
فَفَرَّقَ — so divided. A past-tense verb of the doubled-intensive pattern meaning 'split apart', opened by the attached 'so' that marks the consequence. The prefix presents the dividing as the result that follows the path's narrowing.
