Arabic vocabulary
How to say “sects” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَتَضَيَّقَ سَبِيلًا مَا زَالَ مُتَّسِعًا فَفَرَّقَ الأَكْثَرُونَ دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا شِيعًا
And a path that had remained wide became narrow, so the majority divided their religion and became sects.
شِيعًا — sects. An indefinite noun in the accusative serving as the predicate of the 'became' verb, naming what they turned into, sects. The 'became' verb assigns this accusative to its predicate rather than the nominative a plain noun would take.
