Arabic vocabulary
How to say “duty” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
الْوَاجِبُ عَلَى الْعَاقِلِ أَخْذُ الْعِدَّةِ لِرَحِيلِهِ؛
It is incumbent upon a sensible person to make preparations for his departure.
الْوَاجِبُ — the duty. The al- marks this as a definite abstract noun, 'the obligatory thing', set up as the topic the sentence will define. With no 'is' word, it leans on what follows as its predicate, the impersonal 'it is incumbent' frame that the rest of the clause fills in.
