  If one experiences an impurity after taking the dust but before wiping the face, the taking is invalidated, and he must take it again.

  الْأَخْذُ — the taking. The action-noun 'the taking' as the doer of 'became void' (the -u) — the gathering of the dust is what is cancelled. Because purity broke before the wiping, the dust-taking must be redone, as the next clause requires.
