دَقَّ — elusive. A past-tense verb 'was fine / subtle', subject 'it' (the meaning) inside, opening a clause describing it — 'which was too subtle'. The meaning's delicacy.

While I was sitting with him, there came a knock at the door.
دَقَّ — he knocked. A past-tense verb reporting the sudden knock, the event that interrupts the scene. Its subject, the knocker, follows it in the usual Arabic order.
