Arabic vocabulary
How to say “fathers” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
﴿لَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ مَا أَشْرَكْنَا وَلَا آبَاءُنَا وَلَا حُرِمْنَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ﴾
If God had willed, we would not have associated partners, nor would our fathers, nor would we have been deprived of anything.
آبَاءُنَا — our fathers. This plural noun for fathers carries a tail -na, 'our', as possessor, 'our fathers'. It is a second subject swept into the negated result, the suffix binding ownership onto the noun, so the excuse claims the ancestors too would not have erred.
